TEACHING METHODS AND ASSESSMENT OF STUDENTS

Course Delivery Formats

The MSc in "Journalism and New Media" courses are delivered through the following formats:

  1. In-person instruction
  2. Distance (online) learning in special cases

 

Teaching Methods

The teaching methods employed in the MSc in "Journalism and New Media" are diverse and include:

  1. Lectures
  2. Study and analysis of books and academic articles
  3. Seminars
  4. Student presentations of assignments
  5. Research exercises
  6. Project work (preparation of a study)
  7. Educational visits and attendance at conferences, seminars, and professional events

A central element of these teaching methods is the creation of an educational environment that actively fosters:

  • The continuous and active participation of postgraduate students in the learning process.
  • The strategic use of available educational technologies, both functionally and technically.

To further enhance the learning process and encourage active participation, instructors, as detailed in the course outlines, implement a variety of educational techniques and differentiated learning activities. These include:

a) Practical, hands-on training.

b) Specialized educational activities focused on the MSc's subject area, such as visits to media companies, presentations by industry professionals, and guest lectures from professors at other universities.

While courses are primarily taught in Greek, English may be used in specific instances, such as for guest speakers from abroad.

 

Student Assessment Methods

The overall methods for student evaluation in the MSc in "Journalism and New Media" program are:

  1. Written work and exercises, which may or may not include a public presentation. Please note: Only the Master's Thesis requires a public defense.
  2. Oral examinations

The specific assessment methods for each course are determined by the respective teaching staff and are outlined in the individual course syllabi.

As reflected in these syllabi, nearly all courses utilize multiple and varied assessment methods for postgraduate students. These may include a combination of:

  • Writing short papers
  • Writing a final paper
  • Oral examinations
  • Presentations of papers
  • Reports from internship supervisors (for the internship component of the program)

The final evaluation for each course is formed by a combination of the above methods.
