The Laboratory of Journalism Studies and Communication Applications was established in 2015 and focuses on the structure, operation, and practice of the journalistic field as well as applied communication.

A particularly important aspect of its research activity concerns developments in the fields of economics and technology and their impact on journalism and the media.

At present, the Laboratory aims to contribute to the research and study of Journalism and Applied Communication in the following areas:

  • Online journalism in Greece
  • Populism and the media
  • Violence on Greek television
  • Representations of the Healthcare System in the Media
  • Media Organization and Policy
  • Political campaigns and elections
  • Changes in the Greek communication landscape

The Laboratory of Journalism Studies and Communication Applications includes members of the Faculty (Teaching and Research Staff) of the Department of Communication and Media Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

External collaborators include journalists and researchers whose academic knowledge and professional experience relate to the Laboratory’s activities, as well as postgraduate students.
